Roof Step Down

Install shingles as normal up to the base of the plumbing vent.
Roof step down. Investing in this step down roof style metal barn is one of the best decisions you ll make. Cut the flashing back to the peak along each crease. Because a flat roof isn t actually flat because of the slight incline that ensures an optimal water runoff you must observe this. Then fold the flashing over the peak and cover the cut ends with self stick underlayment.
Momentarily lift the boot and apply sealant to hold the flashing in place. Roof valleys channel a lot of water so they need extra protection. When you reach the plumbing vent allow the shingles to overlap the top of the flashing. Firmly push the flashing back down into place.
This process is much easier with two people. To get this done just use any 2x4s convert them into long wedges and nail to the joists. Start by installing self stick underlayment on the decking. Step flashing offers far better protection from leaks because even if a single piece of step flashing fails the water just hits the next lower piece.
That flashing directs the water onto the shingle and the water drains down the roof. Its measurements for the center section are 48 w x 30 l x 12 h and 12 w x 30 l x 9 h for the lean tos. The roof deck flange of step flashings are to be fastened to the surface of each shingle in a position whereby the next course of shingles will cover up hide the flashing from view. The vertical flange of the flashing is to extend up behind the adjoining siding.
Required tools for this project. Place the flashing or boot onto the plumbing vent so the base is resting on shingles.
